MSU Information Security Standards

The Michigan State University (MSU) Information Security Standards (ISS) provide a definitive set of security objectives and security controls that are designed to help the University community secure MSU information systems and assets under their control as required by the MSU Information Security Policy (ISP). Compliance with these standards ensures that MSU consistently:

  • protects its information assets
  • helps satisfy legal, regulatory, and contractual requirements
  • applies best practices for information technology security and risk management while protecting the unimpeded flow of information

The ISS defines specific configuration specifications and security controls that support compliance with the DRAFT MSU ISP.

Compensating controls must be reviewed by MSU Information Security for applicability and intent of the security control objective with the goal of maintaining the security of MSU assets.
